How to Choose the Right Smoker for You
Expert Advice from ohenvzahrade.cz/en
A garden smoker is one of the most loved outdoor accessories for anyone who enjoys homemade smoked meat, sausages, or cheese.
If you want that authentic smoky flavor, choosing the right smoker is essential.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to pick the ideal smoker for your needs, space, and smoking style.
🔥 Metal or Wooden Smoker?
A wooden smoker generally offers better insulation, heats up faster, and maintains a more stable temperature — perfect for winter smoking.
A metal smoker, on the other hand, has a longer lifespan and better weather resistance.
👉 For year-round smoking, a wooden smoker from ohenvzahrade.cz/en is an excellent choice.
🍖 Small or Large Smoker?
The rule is simple: in a large smoker, you can always smoke less, but in a small one, you can’t smoke more.
Our smaller models can handle around 10 kg of meat, while larger smokers easily manage up to 20 kg.
Of course, it depends on the size and shape of the meat pieces and how they’re hung or placed.
The advantage of OHENVZAHRADE.CZ/en wooden smokers is their modular design — you can easily remove or add a smoking chamber to adjust the size as needed.
💡 Tip: choose a larger smoker that can be reduced in size if necessary. The other way around is not as easy.
🌲 Burnt (Charred) or Natural Finish?
It might seem like a matter of taste, but it’s also practical.
A charred (burnt) wooden smoker has several benefits:
-
smoke and heat stains are less visible,
-
it’s more resistant to sunlight, rain, and snow,
-
it maintains an attractive look over time.
If you care about long-term appearance, go for the burnt finish.
🌿 Oiled or Untreated Surface?
Our smokers are not lacquered — we treat them with 100 % natural linseed oil, which acts as an eco-friendly wood preservative.
Linseed oil:
-
protects the wood from moisture and UV rays,
-
extends the smoker’s lifespan,
-
keeps the color even and natural.
If your smoker will be kept outdoors all year, we recommend an oiled (impregnated) version.
If you store it indoors after use, oil treatment is optional.
🛖 With or Without Metal Roof Covering?
A zinc-coated roof protects the smoker from rain and snow.
If your smoker will stay outdoors, choose one with a metal roof covering.
If you’ll store it in a dry place, this addition isn’t necessary.
🔥 Standard or XL Firebox?
-
Standard firebox: 25 × 25 × 30 cm
-
XL firebox: 10 cm longer
A larger XL firebox makes it easier to control the fire and allows you to use longer wood logs without cutting.
Both versions perform equally well — the smoking results are the same.
