Anyone who has ever smoked food the classic way…
Anyone who has ever smoked food the classic way, with wood, knows what it’s like: it’s beautiful, but also a bit of a sport. Not too much fire, not too little, dry wood, splitting logs, constant feeding, watching the draft and temperature — and sometimes, despite all the effort, the result still isn’t perfect. Smoking takes time and requires skill. Yet the core of smoking is really just producing clean smoke and keeping a stable temperature.
And this is exactly where smoke generators come in — small devices that sit next to the smoker, you fill them with wood chips, and the generator produces smoke by itself. Steady, for hours, without logs and without supervision.
WHAT A SMOKE GENERATOR ACTUALLY IS
Simply put: it’s a “tube” that you fill with wood chips (3–8 mm fraction), and those chips smolder in a controlled way. No open flame, no burning log — just clean glowing embers. The smoke is then led into the smoking chamber through a pipe.
A simple idea, but it changes a lot:
-
the smoke is consistent,
-
there’s no feeding logs,
-
you can control the airflow (and therefore smoke intensity),
-
and if you need long smoking sessions, you simply use a bigger container.
It’s also important that the generator “burns” outside the smoker, so tar and condensate stay outside, not on the meat.
“DYMBOX” IS NOT A TYPE — IT’S A BRAND THAT BECAME GENERIC
One helpful clarification: smoke generators are often called “Dymbox” in our region. But that’s not a device category, it’s a brand name. “Dymbox” was originally one of the first (and still very solid) Polish smoke generators that spread widely.
Over time, “Dymbox” became a generic term
In short:
-
Dymbox = the original product
-
“dymbox” = common slang for any smoke generator
And yes, we sell the original Dymbox, both individually and in our electric conversion kits.
HOW THIS BECOMES AN ELECTRIC SMOKER
The smoke generator provides smoke, but temperature makes up the other half. In an electric smoker, heat comes from an electric heating element, controlled by a temperature regulator.
No magic, just physics:
-
the generator makes smoke,
-
the element provides heat,
-
the regulator keeps the temperature steady,
-
and you don’t have to stand next to it.
The result? You can smoke for 2–6 hours without adding logs, without managing draft, without worrying about wood moisture or other complications.
ADVANTAGES COMPARED TO CLASSIC SMOKING (WITHOUT ROSE-TINTED GLASSES)
What’s great:
-
no searching for dry wood,
-
no splitting logs,
-
no feeding the fire,
-
no lighting a firebox,
-
clean, tar-free smoke (with dry chips),
-
stable temperature,
-
smoking is possible year-round,
-
repeatable results (recipe = same outcome).
What you need to know:
-
you need electricity,
-
the smoker needs a port for the generator,
-
the size of the smoker determines heating power.
WHAT SMOKE GENERATORS WE OFFER (AND FOR WHOM)
We don’t push one model — every smoker is different:
HEIMDALL 3 L
Reliable stainless steel “workhorse” with an ash drawer. Fits most household smokers.

LOKI 3 L (OHENVZAHRADE)
Our own design with separated combustion — tar drips into an outside jar, not into the smoker.

ODIN 6 L (OHENVZAHRADE)
Same as Loki but with double capacity. Ideal for long sessions or large smoking chambers. Stainless steel tube.

ORIGINAL DYMBOX
For those who want the branded original. Works great and is not Chinese-made. Available individually or in kits.

WHAT CHIPS TO USE (AND WHY)
Smoke generators are not for logs — they use wood chips 3–8 mm.
Why?
-
too fine chips block airflow and smother the smoldering,
-
uniform smoldering,
-
no open flame,
-
clean smoke.
We offer our own chip line (beech, alder, fruitwood), in 1–15 kg packs.

NOW THE ELECTRIC PART
Temperature comes from:
-
heating element (2000 W or 3500 W depending on smoker size)
-
temperature regulator (set e.g. 70 °C and you’re done)
-
probe inside the chamber

THE SIMPLEST SOLUTION: THE ASGARD KIT
For those who don’t want to mix components, there’s a complete kit:
✔ smoke generator
✔ heating element
✔ temperature regulator
All you need is a smoker, a drill and a power outlet.

CONCLUSION
A smoke generator is surprisingly simple — and turns smoking into a “set it and smoke it” activity. For some it means comfort, for others the ability to smoke year-round without stress. For beginners it mostly means the confidence that temperature and smoke will be correct.
And the best part?
Every one of our smokers can be converted to electric easily.
You just need to choose!
