How to choose a garden water standpipe
Four things matter: height, connection, number of taps and shape. You can identify the connection from the model number. Odd-numbered models have a side connection, even-numbered models have a bottom connection. Models with a side connection include an additional GW ½“ tap connection for a garden hose.
Round standpipes have a tube diameter of 60.3 mm for the 100 cm height and 50.3 mm for the 70 cm height; square models have a 40 mm profile. Standpipes with a single tap have a wall thickness of 2 mm. Both the inlets and upper outlets are size ½“; the thread type can be found in the specifications of the specific model.
Which version to choose
- Smooth round standpipes one and two measure 100 cm, while nine and ten measure 70 cm. They stand on a 135 mm base.
- Decorative round standpipes three and four (100 cm height) and eleven and twelve (70 cm height) have the same tube and base as the smooth models. They differ by their decorative surface.
- Square decorative standpipes five and six (100 cm height) and seven and eight (70 cm height) stand on a narrower 90 mm base.
- Double-tap standpipes thirteen and fourteen measure 70 cm and have a square profile of 4 x 4 cm. The set includes two ½“ taps, and the upper outlet has two ½“ internal threads.
Where to install the standpipe and what accessories to add
The anchor is a separate product. You fix it into the ground via six holes in the base and then screw the standpipe onto it using the provided screws and nuts. The standpipe can be removed and relocated. The anchor for bottom connection has its own water supply with a ½“ external thread, meaning water enters the standpipe from below. Choose it based on the standpipe's connection.
Use the standpipe to water flowers, lawns, and beds, and after connecting a hose, you can rinse garden tools, furniture, or a car. You can water raised beds directly from it if you install it nearby. Collect rainwater in a folding tank from the irrigation section. If you are undecided between a standpipe and a tank, compare them in the garden water category.
