How to choose a gas grill
Start by considering how many people you are grilling for. A single burner is simple to operate and sufficient for a balcony or terrace. Three to four burners can prepare more dishes at once, while six burners are aimed at garden parties. The Traveler Compact with an area of 1 550 cm² is enough for four people. The second question is the gas source. Larger trolley grills often have a bottom cabinet for a 5 kg gas cylinder. Portable Q 1100N, Go-Anywhere and Traveler models run on cartridges. The Q 1200 N can be converted to a PB cylinder using a purchased kit, and the Traveler via an adapter.
Cast iron grates retain heat and grill evenly; the Dayton has a chrome grate instead, and the Columbus has an enamelled one. The lid thermometer on the Deluxe series shows up to 500 °C. Those seeking the taste of fire will prefer a charcoal grill.
Which version to choose
- El Fuego gas grills range from the two-burner San Jose 2 to the six-burner Key West and Long Beach. The number in the name indicates the number of main burners, and the +1 designation adds a side burner for sauces. Most of them include a reduction for Czech gas cylinders.
- Weber gas grills consist of the compact Q series, the garden Spirit, and the premium Genesis. The grates are mostly made of porcelain-enamelled cast iron. Higher models add a Sear Zone with two more powerful burners and a digital thermometer with a probe.
- Plancha grills replace the grate with a smooth plate, ensuring small ingredients do not fall through. Austin II and Austin III feature an enamelled cast iron plate, while the Weber Slate has a porcelain-enamelled surface with a temperature over 260 °C.
- Portable and tabletop models fit on a balcony or in a car boot. The Traveler folds with one hand, the Go-Anywhere weighs 6 kg, and the tabletop Medison adds a smoker burner for wood chips.
- Smokers and multifunctional grills also include gas combinations. The Arizona adds a charcoal grate, the Sierra is an offset smoker, and the Boston is a pizza oven.
What you need for a gas grill
A grill that stays outdoors can be protected from winter by a protective cover selected according to the model dimensions. Whole chickens and roasts are rotated by a rotisserie with a length of 36, 72 or 108 cm, which fits grills with two to six burners. You can purchase a reduction adapter for a grill with a German pressure regulator.
